DescriptionChoosing the right linen size is the difference between a table that looks polished and one that looks like it’s wearing "high-water" pants. The "drop"—the amount of fabric that hangs over the edge—is the key variable here.

Standard drops are usually 8–12 inches for casual dining and 30 inches (floor length) for formal events.

Round tables are the bread and butter of weddings and banquets. If you want the linen to touch the floor, you'll generally need a cloth 60 inches wider than the table diameter.

Rectangular tables (often called "trestle" or "6-foot/8-foot" tables) are standard for buffets and seating.

Pro-Tips for Styling

Table Runners: These typically measure 12–16 inches wide. For the best look, ensure the runner hangs 6–12 inches over each end of the table.

The "Puddle" Factor: For ultra-formal events, people sometimes choose a linen that is 2–4 inches longer than the floor length to let the fabric "puddle" on the ground. It looks great but is a major tripping hazard!

The Napkin Standard: Standard dinner napkins are usually 20" x 20".

Quick Math: To find your ideal size, measure your table length and width, then add twice the desired drop to each dimension. For example, a 60" table with a 10" drop needs an 80" cloth (60 + 10 + 10 = 80).
